On September 29th, Jean arrives in Richmond, VA in the early evening. How nice to be expected. Simon Dixon from Washington D.C. had arranged for Sam Vafiadis, from Richmond to meet Jean upon his arrival. So, Sam and his wife took Jean to their home, fed him a nice dinner and took care of him for the whole weekend. They even took care of his Winnebago by buying some parts to fix it and some spare ones they gave Jean.
The generosity of the people Jean meets on his journey is getting to be nothing less than legendary. Sam and his wife even warned Jean that being in the South, he had to be careful of snakes when he slept in his tent. Wow! Real poisonous snakes!!! No more going out bare foot in the dark from now on!
When he phoned me, on Sunday, October 1st, Jean told me: " It is starting to smell like down South ". I suppose it means it doesn't smell like snow, like it does in Montreal now.
Early Monday morning Sam drove Jean where he had picked him up and from there, everybody went to work...
Jean is heading towards Danville, VA, Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA. He says the road is long; the towns are fewer and smaller. He slept in his tent all week and is anxious to take a shower...
Yes, sometimes a good warm shower is a God given blessing...
Till next week...
