Canadian pedestrian welcomed at Dergaon

A warm welcome was offered to the Canadian pedestrian JEAN BELIVEAU in Dergaon on Saturday evening. The pedestrian who started his walking around the world for the children on August 18, 2000, left Montreal Canada and reached Dergaon on April 26 around 4 pm. The pedestrian was greeted with warm congratulations in a roadside emission at Dergaon Chariali, which was anchored by Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika, Dergaon city’s secretary Sahitya Sabha, and a journalist. In the program Jean Beliveau was highly commended for his feat and presented with “phoolam gamocha” and books by the city’s secretary, Dergaon Journalist Association, Chamber of Commerce, Dergaon ASSU unit etc.
In a short speech, Jean Beliveau expressed his gratitude for the love and reception offered to him by the people of Assam as well as of Dergaon. He also revealed that he started his mission walking around the world for the children as a part of the proclamation of the UNITED NATION. His goal is to walk 70,000 km through 70 countries in 12 years and so far he has completed 50,000 km through 51 countries. To restore international peace he started his mission at his own cost. Earlier he was also greeted in Badulipar by several organizations. After spending the night he left Dergaon for Jorhat. According to his route he will proceed to China through Arunachal Pradesh.
