Last week, we left Jean sleeping at the Hilton, a few miles from Tarrytown, N.Y. Since he had a ride in a car for these few miles, the next morning, after checking out, he walked back to the YMCA in Tarrytown because he didn't want to cheat with having ridden even a few miles... Let us say he is very conscientious of doing his trip "on foot".
He then went to the heart of New York City and visited a bit. It was around 4:00 PM when he started thinking he had to find a place to sleep... He didn't think it was a good idea to pitch his tent in front of the United Nations building... So he went to the "The Consulate of Canada" where they offered him a plane ticket back to Montreal. He then explained what he was doing and they helped him to find a place in New York City.
So, he was welcomed with warmth by Reverend Paul Bernier, Assistant Superior at St-Jean Baptiste Church on 76th Street where Jean was offered to stay the whole week. He has been treated like a prince again and has taken the time to rest a few days, which is nice after a walk from Montreal to New York city. There, he also got up to date in his paper work, his diary, his road mapping etc... He also went to see a few newspapers but they were all so very busy with the UN's Millennium Summit.
All in all, it has been a week of rest, visiting and preparing for another stage of his trip.
