thank you for your journey, Jean! Amazing being you are. When a journey is embarked upon it unfolds into the new like a baby born into the world. It lives on and there is no way knowing how it affects anyone, really. I love what you did, the exploration you undertook. I find you an inspiration, you inspire me to take a serious look at a plan I started to develop in my 30's and shelved. Reading about you has opened my mind to more about myself. Much love to you Jean, and Luce, who also is amazing and an inspiration!! xxoo

I've just heard about what you did and it's amazing to hear that someone in this day and age has done something others can only dream
I have a threw questions to ask if that's ok what did you find out about yourself spiritually and physicality?
Was there ever a time you felt you could go no more?
Did you hunt?
What skill or knowledge did you discover?
Would you feel that it would have been better with your wife or friends came with you?
Do you think you could do it again?
Ok last question I swear and did you go off the roads and into the wilderness if so what was it like?
P.s sorry about all the questions your just a big inspiration feel free to email me

Jean, what you have done is absolutely amazing, and I can't believe I didn't find out about your trip until this year. This trip has given me a new view on humanity: the hospitality, the tenacity that we as a species naturally possess is evident here and as a result has got me thinking of a trip of my own. Maybe I'll pass by you! You are one of my biggest inspirations, and rest assured that you will remain with that title. Thank you for being an inspiration to everyone.
I would also like to know how you got a mass amount of people to help you: ask politely, offer favors, do jobs? Whatever you did helped you out and I would love to know.

Thank you for the inspiration. I have a dream and the only thing that kept me from realizing it is that I was afraid of becomeing homeless in the process.
Now that I am reading what an adventure life can be and that 1600 families have taken you in, I will have the courage to realize my dream.
Also, you made me realize that I'll have to change the focus from wanting to become rich and famous and focus on connecting to people who are like me. I will have to be honest to attract the kind of people who I need in my life.
The only problem is, I am a woman and life is a bit more dangerous for us, but I will find a way to accomplish my goal.
I think that the real purpose of life is to find out more about life and the miraculous universe we live in before we die. I will put you on the list of the people that I will send a copy of my book :)
Thanks again. You have been an inspiration.

Congratulations on your endeavour, it has inspired thousands, including myself. I find myself in a similar situation that you were in - sick of the disease that is society in it's routine, repetitive ways.
I am very enthusiastic towards completing such an opportunity, so I am interested at how so many people became aware of your journey. For example, how did an airline in New Zealand become aware of you and your pilgrimage? And how did you manage to get such an mass off people to let you stay in their houses, did you just ask?
So many question I wish to ask, if you have the time to pass on your knowledge, please email me! I would treasure it greatly. (ollyhounsfield@outlook.com)
Best wishes for the future,
Oliver.

Hi Jean, I just wanted to say that I actually had a chance to meet you 3 years ago at our school Ecole Sacre Coeur and that I was so so thankful that I had a photograph kept and that it reminded of you and I had to go and find you again.
Since them, I hope that you haven't stopped spreading the way of peace and non-violence to children all around the world. Ever since them I've been inspired by people like you who have done so much and sacrificed a lot to help spread peace by walking so far and wide. I am so grateful to have met you even though its been a little bit of a blur trying to remember what you said on that day haha.
Right now I'm at Kelvin High School and if you have time and the chance, I would like for you to come to our school and come and speak about your experiences doing this walk. I think more people should know about you and the tremendous things you have done. My email is danalance53@yahoo.com . Once again so great stumbling on your work and now I'm determined not to lose this again. I haven't forgotten about meeting you that day. And I hope to see you again, Thank you^^

Just saw your TED talk and have bought your DVD to show other groups of young people who come here to learn more about living sustainably and how to care for the land. Our young Nepalese friends 'The 7 Summits women' have just climbed their 5th summit in the world and now have 2 to go. Like you, we are sure that they too will achieve what they have set out to complete. Keep up the great work. We have some young Canadians coming here next week and perhaps there will be another person to meet with a hug as big as yours!! Cheers Dean

I want to congratulate you on your accomplishment. For the last 6 years 8 months, I have had a walking campaign in the town and surrounding towns I live to walk 10-15 miles a day.I just completed 25,000 miles which is the circumference of the earth. One question everyone asks is how many shoes did I go through? My answer is 15 pair. I kept a mileage table for each year and this year I will have walked 5000 miles. I started out thinking 3000 miles in a year would be a good goal.
I feel great. Have seen a lot and met many interesting people. This is nothing compared to your accomplishment. I'm not trying to do that. My final goal is to retire next year and take a trip around the world. By the way, you went the wrong way. One thing I want to do is be one day younger when I go. Your a day older. Oh well. I;m sure you will out live many more days than some with this amount of excerise. I plan on reading all of your journals and look forward to hearing about your experiences. Best of luck. .

Wow! What a wonderful adventure. As for Negative comments...when did we, as a people on this planet STOP dreaming and setting out on GREAT ADVENTURES simply because "we" have decided they are NOT of value. Where would we be now? Not on Everest. Certainly there would be no Space Flight. And as a woman, I shudder to think that Amelia Earhart would have never found wings and slipped the surly bonds of earth. And those are sims a few of the examples of great adventure making us as a race great.
Well done Luce! If you Love someone you love someone... You are one in 6.5 million. T.

You are unbelievable!!! A live idol for all of us who breath. It's shameful for how easily we have given up in practicing things running across our minds. You deserve everything you can think of wanting. But I am curious, when it's DONE, would you be able to stop at all or would you want to keep walking if the condition permits ? And I am too curious which one face has remained in your mind as for now, and which moment would you miss the most thr out the long way
Many love to you xoxoxo

Hi Jean, a week ago The Advertiser, South Australian newspaper, printed very wise words: "We may never have peace but if we take one step forward and then another, I think we can create a better world together". They quoted YOU at the end of your 11 years Great Walk. Man, FANTASTIC! I met You in Mendoza 9 years ago and was admiring your attempt. And YOU did it. My climbing around the world at the time was dwarfed. Now I even more cherish Your card I still have! Hope to see you again one day to Congratulate You in person. Keep loving people! Adam

Hi Jean
I read that you have completed your journey. What a fantastic achievement. Congratulations.
I still remember when I met you. At the time you were buying supplies in Cloncurry, Australia. You had the Canadian flag on your buggy and I asked "Are you walking across Australia" and you said "No, around the world".
It was a pleasure meeting you and I wish you all the best.
Kindest regards

Congratulation upon the completion of your World Wide Walk. Truly amazing story and achievement. I still wonder how one can "walk" for 11 years - day in day out no matter what? I guess you won't go anywhere far in the next couple of weeks and enjoy a well deserved break. Had you planned for that route or did it just happen like that? And how could you manage to get all the Visa needed to "walk" through countries like Iran or China?
Country : Netherlands Date : 2011-10-19 Hour : 18:10
Brilliant journey, congratulations on completing it but in the 'route' section Ireland should not have a British flag but an Irish flag!
I admire you greatly because of this journey.
Country : USA Date : 2011-10-19 Hour : 12:25
Jean,
Congrats on completing your journey! Everything you said about the poor people being so helpful is indeed true. I know firsthand what a fantastic and magical adventure you've had. Believe me, when I promise you that your journey will forever shape the remainder of your life. I returned nearly 25 years ago and have never been able to go back to work. The stories of the worldwalk have become a full-time occupation. You are about to change the lives of--and inspire--countless persons, as a result of sharing your stories. I hope we meet some day. Welcome to perhaps the most exclusive group in the world--those who have walked solo around the world.

We were privilaged to meet Jean during his Australian leg (Canberra) and remember him with great fondness. He was truly inspirational and, yet, humble and personalble. We feel sure that he left an indelible mark wherever he spent time - he certainly did with us. He has finished his walk now and has an equally challenging task to communicate it to the world. Who can doubt he is up to that task.

Contragulations Jean on your great trek, fantastic feet (pun intended). But I was looking at your route through my country of the Republic of Ireland and noticed you have the UK flag beside it (shock & horror). That my friend is the wrong flag. As a separate and independent country since the 1920's we do have our own flag now Jean, it's the (Green, White & Orange) one you may have seen whilst here. Thought you should really know this and hopefully correct the error. Congrats again!

I picked up our top daily The Star today only to find your face on world news. Finally you have ended the historical walk. If you could remember nights in Kota Kinabalu, the three Stooges who disturbed your sleep by taking you for a seafood treat and later arrange for two interviews with the local dailies that made you known throughout your journey to Lawas; that's US. And today we recall the moment again seeing your victory from afar. God bless you Jean from all of us in Malaysia.

What a great GOOD NEWS story, we have to read so much that is bad news and misfortune in the media. I want to try to do this trek, the north and south american part for sure. The bike trailer is brillant way to carry all your stuff, way smarter than a back breaking pack. I also notice the wisdom of sandals and socks for trekking comfort!.

Dear Jean & family, Words are really not adequate. I had the pleasure of meeting Terry Fox in northern Ontario in Aug. 1980 just before he had to stop his Marathon of Hope. We were alone on the highway and my 4 year old daughter handed him $10.00 out the car window saying "God Bless you, Terry". She is 35 today and still remembers. All I can say to you, Jean, is God Bless and a sincerest Thankyou from one Grandparent to another. I now have a 4 year old granddaughter and I share your hopes and dreams for them. I have had cancer, and a heart attack and have looked after my daughter with schizophrenia for over 20 years now but I wish I had your courage and tenacity. All the very best to you and yours.

Hi Jean, this is Alison from South Korea. But I am currently studying in Vancouver, Canada. I am 15 years old(almost 16!!). --I saw a news on a Korean Website"Naver" saying"11years of walking through the world...."(in Korean)... I immediately clicked the news and I was so shocked and impressed at the same time. How could you seriously have the courage to WALK through the 64countries by yourself? One of my biggest dreams is to travel through the world and help out the people in poor conditions. Even now, I really really and REALLY want to go to Africa and help them so much, but the circumstances around me hadn't let me do that. Therefore, I am so happy to know you because I now got a courage and hope to travel(hopefully by walking in some countries) through the world. I would like to visit this site often and view the photos and read information here. Thank you so much and I respect you a lot. Although, I may be a young teenager, I have a big dream and I will accomplish it. I really hope you had challenging but fun times in the countries and South Korea! :D If you got wonders or quesitons about anything on South Korea, even though I may not know, I will be in the best effort to answer you.
Email me if you need!! *^_^*

Hi Jean!
I hadn't heard about your journey until today, actually. My mom said she had heard about it when you first started, which was 11 years ago, where I would have been only 5. You just came to my house in Napanee Ontario where you asked to pitch your tent. I didn't go outside to talk to you but my mom did, and said you had a scrapbook of all your worldwide pictures. From what she said that you had told her, I think that your journey sounds amazing! Especially the fact you're walking, not using car. I hope you have a safe trip home to Montreal!

Bonjour Jean. I had heard your voice in an interview with CBC radio where you described your journey. At that moment I thought you must be a very devouted and kind man, and since your name was similar to a hockey player's, who could forget. Never did I think that on August 23 we would meet in Estaire (30 km south of Sudbury), and have dinner at Oddball's Restaurant. It was a pleasure to be able to help you in your journey. I enjoyed your stories and it was an increadible experience to meet you. You are such a humble man. Your journal accounts for life experience which should be shared with the world. We took photos and then you were on your way. Hope your travels are safe and I wish you well.

It was such a privilege and honour to have Jean stay with my family on August 31st, 2011 in Hillsdale, Ontario. I have never met a man so gracious, humble and selfless. Living such a simple life, that trusts in the goodness of fellow mankind was an inspiration to me. I met for the 1st time, and picked up Jean on Highway 11 just heading south out of Orillia. Jean's dear wife Luce had provided me the date Jean was walking through our area, and asked if my offer of accomodaion several months ago was still okay. On the side of the highway Jean and I shook hands and then embraced. We had to take off the back tires of Jean's buggy to get it into my little hatchback car. It was there I noticed that the 2 back tires were completely bald. I said, "Jean, your back tires are bald". He acknowledged what I said, but did not say anything else. Our family had dinner and we sat around the dinner table talking well into the evening.....but my mind kept drifting back to those bald tires. The next morning I drove Jean over to the bike shop in Hillsdale and introduced him to owners Rollie and Grace Hallyburton. I asked Rollie to change the tires and I would pay. Rollie put brand new tires and tubes on the rims (the 17th set of tires on Jean's journey), but would not take any money. After that I dropped Jean off where I picked him up. Jean always makes it a point to start a little distance further back from where he last stopped. I waited for him at the parking lot of the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail, to make sure he found his way there, and then drove to Barrie and parked on the waterfront and walked back and met Jean further back on the rail trail. For those 16 kilometers (of Jean's 35 kilometer walk that day) we walked and talked together on the quietness of the trail ......and it was incredible. I visited SO many places over those 16 kilometers. There were the jungles of Borneo, where the sounds in the night were so loud and intense, I thought I would be the next meal. There was the relentless 45 degree heat in the Outback of Australia where 12 litres of water a day is a minimum in order to survive while walking, and is so isolated it is 2 weeks between showers. There was the armed police and military escorts that helped me walk through dangerous high risk area of North India, and North Africa. In the Andes of South America the mountain passes were so long it would take 5 days to reach the top. Coming down those passes without any brakes on the buggy, it took all my might to hold back on it, and it felt like my knees were about to explode. I visited the pyramids of Egypt. In Ethiopia the children always loved to walk alongside me, but it was so hard because I could not understand what they were saying. In Mozambique had absolutely NOTHING as far as material possessions go, but they were SO happy. They had a deep, happy laugh that came out from the depths of their inner being. In those 16 kilometers I had travelled and experienced the world through the eyes of John Beliveau. Jean's message is "Peace and non-violence for the children of the world", and he is VERY passionate about it. Living his simple life, he lives what he talks, and is very concerned of what we are doing to our planet, by robbing it of it's resources. This is so that we can have our material possessions, that deep down do not bring more happiness. The children are the ones who will be suffering for all this. They are the ones who will have to pay for the debts we have incurred, and deal with a planet that is robbed of it's resources. My "world journey" ended at the Day's Inn, in south Barrie, where SNAP newspaper generously provided Jean with a room for the night. In that hotel lobby we embraced farewell, and when we parted tears were streaming down both our faces. Jean was so grateful for what we did for him, yet I felt like we did so little. He asked what could he do for me in return, and I said, "You have done WAY more for me,,,,,you have impacted my life"!

We just had the honor of meeting Jean, such an incredible man on an amazing journey through his life who has touched our heart along with so many others.
We live in the country, and he happened to come into our driveway pushing his cart...he was in need of some water. Little did we know this man was almost to the end of his 11 year journey around the world or what an awesome story he was willing to share with us. After talking with him for a short time, he pulled out a scrapbook full of newspaper articles, pics from around the world, of his beautiful wife, children and grandchildren. It made me realize how much he has sacrificed in his life for peace and non-violence for the children around the world.
After he left, my husband and I couldn't stop talking about this selfless man..than we realized that we didn't even get pictures of this kind, gentle and wonderfully inspiring man who unknowingly impacted our lives so much. We grabbed our camera, tripod and drove down the road looking for him...Thank you Jean for sharing a part of your fasinating journey in your life and allowing us to be a part of it and for giving us the lasting memories of it.

My family and I had the pleasure of meeting Jean while we were on a walk ourselves. We live in a little country town just south of Gravenhurst ON. It was a pleasant surprise and an amazing story to hear about Jean's travels and incredible endurance. My 7 year old son was so impressed that he has already started a report about Jean's walk around the world to tell his class! It was an honour ro meet Jean and he is in all of our thoughts as he makes the journey home!

We met on a lonely stretch of road in Ontario while I was cycling across Canada. I was the guy who lived in Argentina and Brazil, places you had been. It was one of the highlights of my cross-Canada trip to speak with you on the side of the highway.
May the rest of your walk be safe.

On our way home on Aug 22, we were on the lookout for Jean and passed him just 5 km west of Sudbury (highway 17). Well done Jean. All the best and congratulations.

From the severe drought of the Northen Territory , where we met you at Emerald Springs, and then Queensland, without contact and water to safely arrive back in your beautiful Canadian countryside, to end up at your starting point in the magnificent City of Montreal. Along the way you overcame all manner of hurdles and deprivations for the sake of the future generations . Jean came into my work at macs convenient store and asked my co worker where the closest hotel had been. When he had left, my co worker came up to me and said,"Wow. That was interesting." I asked why and he said, "That man is walking the world!" I thought it was cool, but i never thought anything of it because i thought he had just started and would not finish. Two days later i was on sootoday.com and saw a link that said man walks the world. I clicked on it and was completely surprised to see the man i saw two days ago on the sault's website. I am very shocked and proud of this man for being so courageous to walk the world for peace. May Jean continue his journey with pride and dignity and return home safely to his family. May God bless you.

My wife and I are Biking across Canada and were feeling pretty good about the 3600 miles we have done so far this summer, until we passed Jean pushing his cart up a huge hill just south of Montreal River in Ontario. We got to the bottom of the hill and thought, we have to hear that guys story. Jean made us bike all the way up the hill before we caught up with him. What a tale, this guy was so happy and willing to tell his story even though I am sure he tells it over and over many times a day. He mentioned he plans on writing a book when he gets home. This is a wonderful web site! It is beautiful, informative, and inspiring. Having been here a few times, I was really looking forward to meeting Jean in Winnipeg. He graciously agreed to backtrack from Hadishville, MB to attend Winnipeg's Annual Walk for Peace and Peace Festival on June 18th. It was a thrill to meet Jean, hear a little sample of his stories, and enjoy his personal warmth and humour. I also appreciate his willingness to stay in Winnipeg long enough to meet with Lloyd Axworthy to urge him to support the Department For Peace campaign. I hope that all Canadians who are inspired by Jean's walk for peace will ask their MP to help make a federal Department of Peace a reality. Thank you Jean. Have a wonderful life. And please put some of those heart-warming stories of our common humanity in a book. Our world leaders need to read them.

My first thought when I heard about Jean walking across the world for peace was, “How will that help peace†but after spending some time with Jean and asking about his travels. I wanted to know one thing. What are the people like? I was struck by the fact, that no matter where he was, whether in Africa, Iran or China, despite the difference of cultures, we, as in we the people are all the same. We love are children, we struggle to survive. We really are one big family. I guess as long as we think of those distant persons as just brothers from another mother. There can only be peace. Way to go Jean and God bless.

The Story that lead me to watch out for Jean as I drove the hwy. is lengthy but heart warming. Here at work a coworker came in and told a story of seeing a man walking outside of Strathmore. 2 Days later he sees the same man in Brooks. He just had to go talk to him and find out what he was up too.
When I met Jean he was between Brooks and Tilley. I saw him resting at a crossroads as if he was waiting for me or knew I was coming. The short time we chatted I learnt a valuable lesson on the words we use and how they affect our view of people.
Years ago I had learnt there are alot of very good people in the world. Jean takes the idea to the highest level when he says, and I paraphrase, There aren't good people and bad people there is just people.
The world has come together to assist Jean on his mission and I am grateful for being a tiny part of it and having met someone who dared to dream and follow that dream in the face of so many challenges. thank you Jean for you gift

We first met Jean at a small place, 200km south of Darwin, population 3 permanent residents, called Emerald Springs, We amazed at his journey to that date, but were even more astounded with the maps he was carrying that showed water everywhere and his belief that homesteads were dotted along the highway. True in one sense, however in this large country the front gate could be in excess of 100km to the homestead. Most importantly he believed in the generosity of his fellow man and was not worried by his lack of water, or his carrying capacity. The fact that he walked about 30kms per day, more than a marathon, every day he was on the road and had spent over 3000 nights under the stars around the world gave us a small understanding that Jean would achieve his goal. Katherine the next major town was 90kms away and we knew that there was no water available after the 30km mark at a little township called Pine Creek . The rest of the landscape was bone dry due to severe drought. Undeterred he set forth, just as he had done so many times before, aiming to honour the children of the world. Just today we found the new web site and being new to the internet we felt that we should honour Jean for his magnificent project. We are so happy to see Jean back in his homeland. Congratulations Jean,

Dear Mr. Beliveau,
We read an article in the Canadian Reader about your amazing and life-changing travels across the world. It inspired a student in our class, Trey, to create a walk across our city of Windsor for cancer. It was really interesting to hear about your journey and about your cause. We also really liked your pictures. There was a boy in one of the Mexico pictures that looks just like our student Trey. They even have the same ears!
We hope you have a safe return home to Montreal. We also hope that maybe you could stop by and visit our city on your way home. Trey thinks it would be really cool if your walk and his walk could coincide and then you could walk together! Please consider Windsor, Ontario for your route. We have awesome pizza! We also have one of the most diverse cities in all of Canada.
We wish you well and all the best.
Sincerely,
Ms. DeHetre's class

We are tourists from Cape Town, South Africa and had the priviledge of meeting Jean the day before he completed his New Zealand tour approximately 35 kms. south of Cape Reinga at 16h00 on 19 January 2011. We had just visited Cape Reinga some 45 mins.prior to meeting him. We were on our way back to Aucland where we are visiting our daughter and her family. I briefly interviewed Jean whilst recording the conversation on a video clip. My wife also photographed us two. I was thrilled to hear that Jean also walked from Cape town to Cairo. What a remarkable feat. Jean we wish you God's speed and His protection for the remainder of your jouney. Looking forward to be the proud owner of your book once it is released.
Please advise how I can send the photo and video clip to your family. As the Kiwis say "Good on you Mate"

Dear Jean & Mrs. Beliveau.... My sister Heather, brother-in-law Andrew, cousin Dan and myself had the honour of meeting you on a lonely stretch of highway in New Zealand on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 as we drove north towards Piahia. We recognized you Jean as we drove by and wanted to thank you for taking the time to stop and speak to us and to show us your maps and the photos of your journey and your family! It was a thrill and we have been talking about you and your strength of character ever since. We have truly been inspired by your determination and your appreciation for all that you have experienced over the last 10 years! You asked us to send a note to your wife to let her know that you are safe and well and how much you are looking forward to landing in Vancouver and seeing her there! We are very excited for you and hope that you have a wonderful time on your "honeymoon" with her there! We wish you all the best on your Canadian tour and will be cheering for you....and hopefully walking with you when you pass through Edmonton and Calgary on the last leg of your journey! All the best from 4 fellow Canadians that will forever regard you as a hero! Take the best of care.... we hope to meet you again! Erin, Heather, Andrew & Dan

I have just learnt of you Jean via looking up the Peace pilgrim site. The booklet by Peace Pilgrim influenced my life significantly so that I became involved in international peace building work in N.Ireland and the Middle East. Now I find you came near where I live and were in New Lynn Auckland on 24th December. That night I lead a Christmas Eve service around midnight. Many children were present. I am humble that such a Christ-like person was in the area. I wish you well as you return home. Get good counselling as you re-adapt tp a different life. I found this was very necessary. When do you leave NZ? I live near the airport. Wd be great to be there as you leave. Blessings on you and yours.

It has been thrilling to follow this walk through the years. I was happy to sit besides his wife on a flight some years ago. That is why I know about this. It's a pity Scandinavia was not visited but it is easy to understand why from a child perspective. But peace is at least for us in Finland since a bit more than 60 years something we do appreciate.

Dear Luce, dear Jean, the website is wonderful, and you really deserve it. What you do - your walk - is something that makes me speechless. You could have walked straight around the world, and that would already have made you a hero... but if I look at all the "detours"... unbelievable. You are walking "around (in) the world" literally. I follow you only since two years - if I would have known about you when you were in Germany I would have come to shake hands :-))
I wish you a very good and healthy 2011 and a safe walk home!

I wish you all the luck at 'The End'. I have no doubt you will rise to the challenges the end of this part of the journey will bring.
